Strategy Analytics mobile phone component technology research service released the latest research report on the 2017 baseband chip market share tracking: Intel, Hass semiconductor and Samsung LSI shipments are two digit growth. The global honeycomb baseband processor market size dropped by 4% to $21 billion 200 million in 2017.

Strategy Analytics's research report shows that 2017 Qualcomm, the coalition, Samsung LSI, Hass semiconductor, and the news have grabbed the top five share of the world's Honeycomb baseband processor market. Intel is sixth, followed by the news. Market leader Qualcomm increased its share to 53% in 2017, while the coalition was ranked second with a 16% share of earnings, and Samsung LSI was followed by a share of 12%.

-Strategy Analytics estimates that except for the LTE baseband market, the market size of all other baseband segments continues to decline.

All shipments of other major baseband manufacturers increased year-on-year in 2017, except for the MediaTek and the dispatch. In 2017, baseband manufacturers looked for new opportunities, such as LTE mobile phones and cellular Internet of things applications.

The smaller baseband chip manufacturers, including Altair semiconductors, GCT semiconductors, Nordic semiconductors and Sequans Communications, are focusing on the field of cellular Internet.

Strategy Analytics deputy director Sravan Kundojjala commented: "Qualcomm's baseband business has resumed growth in 2017 after the decline in shipments for two consecutive years. Despite fierce competition from Hass, Intel and Samsung, Qualcomm's close relationship with China's mobile phone manufacturers helped to achieve its strong performance in 2017. The Qualcomm Gigabit LTE chip, including Xiaolong 835, was adopted by many popular models in 2017, while the company continued to promote advanced modem functions. Strategy Analytics believes that Qualcomm will maintain its leading position in the market share in 2019 and beyond, from 4G to 5G.

Stuart Robinson, executive director of Strategy Analytics mobile component technology research services, said, "both the joint development department and the exhibition news were hit in 2017 and lost a certain market share. Neither company can accelerate its LTE product roadmap, and the sharp decline of 3G baseband chip exacerbates the complexity of the problem. The Department is looking for a cost advantage and functional LTE chip (such as Helio P60) - oriented mainline product recovery strategy, and Strategy Analytics believes the Department is expected to regain some of the lost share in the second half of 2018. On the other hand, it is following the fast-growing LTE mobile phone segmentation market and updating its LTE smart phone chips to increase shipments. In 2018, it will become a key year for the MediaTek and the exhibition, as the industry will enter the 5G era in 2019.

Christopher Taylor, director of Strategy Analytics RF and wireless component research services, added: "although almost 100% of the shipments of HTH semiconductor, Intel and Samsung LSI are from a single customer, the three largest companies in 2017 have recorded two digit growth in the whole year of LTE baseband shipments. Intel has won the strong two digit LTE baseband chip shipments in 2017 with iPhone orders. Intel has received orders for the two generation of iPhone, and is expected to continue its momentum in iPhone in 2018 through Gigabit LTE chips.
